bound for LA.
i have to say i really like this one since it’s the first to combine wool with wax.
good call, man.
it’s been just over 3 months since my first post about this pair of dzr shoes. so i thought i would give a small update and let y’all know how they’re holding up. basically, as i stated in my last post, the soles are incredibly solid, you don’t feel your pedal at all. i mean, they’re meant to be run clipless so this probably seems obvious, i know. but even the rubber itself is incredibly resistant, barely showing a trace of my lazy man/ted shred stops. i tried to show pictures of the 3 month wear, rather than describe how they’re breaking in. i will say though that everything seems fairly normal for bike-related wear. the lace-keepers are totally a life saver, as i usually do this anyway on my vans. however, i will say the elastic is already wearing out on them and there could be a more durable solution. as well, i find it funny that the extra mile they went to elegantly brand these shoes has come apart as pictured. since taking these pics, both of the plaques are coming unriveted. there’s a small spot on the top of the shoe that didn’t quite get sewn together (maybe these were 2nds?) that i also tried to picture, but doesn’t really effect anything and isn’t getting bigger. other than that, i have tried to save my ONE LITTLE GRIPE for the end: the laces. the laces that come in them are the worst. literally, i’ve never had a pair of shoes where the laces pissed me off. they’re some kind of nylon, i think, which is thinner than your regular shoelace and exhibits elastic qualities. i mean 1. nylon is already really slippery, especially to itself, but 2. why make the lace elastic or stretchy? that’s only going to make it harder to tie tightly because it’s thickness wants to vary depending on pressure exerted on it. anyway, needless to say i ripped em out quick after a few rides where the left shoe (always the left, why?) would come loose after about 45 mins of riding. what you will find in their place are my new pink laces, handmade and set to come out once the weather warms up. only available in bubble gum pink. so stay tuned for more warm-weather goodies, and ride safe!
